Anime is slang for Japanese animation which is supposedly inspired by Disney. I'm not sure of that but thats what I've heard. Anyway, "Anime" is a stlye of animation which is basically a more mature "cartoon" I only use the term "cartoon" because it's animated. Anime is usually much more violent, has more curseing and more sexual inuendos then most TV shows, there is also a distinct plot, not just good VS. evil with new bad guys every episode. Along with this Anime has more sexual content because it was not drawn to US standard, not all anime has this but you will find some that do. If you think a guy showing his chest is nudity, just forget you ever heard of anime. Anime often has more mature humor, stuff you'd hear in a high school, but not church humor. Often you will see religions symolisim in anime. This is because since Shinto, Bhuddisim, and other eastern religions dont have all the neat litle customs and events of Christianiy they kind of marvel at these religions and think it's kind of weird yet cool, like how if you would look at anime, weird but cool.
Often you will be looking up info on a specific anime and find "Hentai" hentai-by direct translation-means porno or pervert, this is usually unofficial fan-created stuff, sure there are animes that show nudity of the female kind but not the characters stripping. All of this was created for the soul purpose of supplying American perverts with more sick junk. You may notice that I have a "Anime Babes" section. There is a distint difference between Hentai and Anime Babes. Where Hentai is anime porno, Anime Babes are just scantly clad/bikini wearing Anime girls. Not nude strippers. This is my definition for it but not everyone calls it so, so if your looking around for Anime Babes be careful.
Sometimes you'll see the word Otaku which refers to anime fans who are really really into anime. An Otaku is no differnt from someone who couldn't live if they missed the newest episode of "Boston Public." So dont take any offense from that word. it just means you'r a crazed fan.

Anime means moving picture, as in edo period they had little moving screens that you looked through a window and twirled, allowing you to see a moving show.
Until the earliest cartoon made by japan (I think Gigantor), was anime put into the meaning of animation. Since then the Moving Picture was stopped and the new form of moving picture (Animation) was put in. The big difference between American Animation and Japanese Animation is that American Animation is more slapstick (aka Looney Toons, Dexter's Labrotory) and more blood and sex oriented (aka SPAWN, and Fritz the Cat)
Japanese Anime is more about making the character's come alive. They use big eyes to express emotion easier, unlike america's, who you can tell the emotion pretty much only by their voice.
Japanese Comics however are more serials or Drama's compared to the American counterparts, ((Compare DBZ with LOBO and you see what I mean)). But that doesn't mean these things do not sell. no no no American Comics and Animation sell big time, as does Japanese Comics, go to Japan and you will see girls wearing Powerpuff Girls T-Shirts, Why? Because they want to be like us.
